In searching “tutoring” on Google you can see pages and pages of websites and platforms connecting students to tutors or tutoring services. But we decided to build Todemy anyway… here’s 7 reasons why:

7 reasons why we created Todemy

  1. Education should be accessible at anytime and anywhere. The turnaround from when you start looking for a tutor to when you meet and have a tutoring session is long. Our vision for Todemy is help on demand… being able to get help when you need it the most, whether that be when you are cramming for an exams, or reviewing an assignment, or just want to learn something new.

  2. The demand and supply of tutoring is mismatched. We believe that the demand for tutoring is highest during exam periods and when assignments are due. However this does not meet the current structure of tutoring services which are generally in an ongoing weekly basis. We hope that Todemy can provide the marketplace to fill that need.

  3. The skills required in the workplace and in society are changing at an ever increasing rate. Concepts learnt at uni may already be out of date by the time you graduate. We need to keep learning and refreshing our skills to keep advancing as a society, and to remain competitive in the job market. Todemy provides the platform for face-to-face knowledge sharing and education.

  4. Everyone has something to learn and everyone has something to teach. We created Todemy to be the platform for knowledge transfer, where you can both learn new things and pass on your own knowledge to others.

  5. We live in a digital society, where more and more of what we do is being digitalised. However we believe that face to face communication is still the most effective way to learn. We have all heard the statistic that body language makes up 58% of communication. This is especially important when it comes to maximising the time you spend learning.

  6. Online resources are great, cheap, valuable, but ineffective. But how many times have you signed up to an online course and haven’t finished it? We believe sitting down with someone for a face to face session can be immensely helpful, even if it’s to help you navigate which online course to focus on. No need to waste 6 weeks on an online course to then find out you actually wanted to learn something else.

  7. Sitting down with an expert in the subject you are interested in can be motivating. Imagine if the expert you meet has the exact job that you want to have in the future? They can provide you with the help you need to achieve your goals, and give you insight into their journey, and how they got there.

Validation

There are a number of assumptions that we have made in creating Todemy, and we are keen to test and validate each and every one of these assumptions with our initial launch. Please get in touch if you have any comments, thoughts and insights!
